The Most Beautiful Cycling Routes in South Tyrol

There’s nothing quite like hopping on your bike on a crisp South Tyrolean morning, feeling the cool air and setting off through apple orchards, vineyards and the shimmering Dolomite peaks.

Starting from Vilpiano, several dream routes await. The Adige Cycle Path is perfect for a relaxed start: it winds through the valley past small villages where time seems to slow down. In the cafés along the way, that cappuccino tastes twice as good – maybe because you’ve earned it.

Further south, the South Tyrolean Wine Road calls. Between Caldaro, Appiano and Termeno, the road meanders through glowing vineyards and castle-dotted hills. In autumn, when the leaves turn gold and the air smells of new wine, every ride becomes a feast for the senses.

And then there’s the Mendel Pass – a highlight for sporty cyclists. From Appiano or Caldaro, the winding road climbs to over 1,300 metres. Each turn opens a new view over the Adige Valley. At the top, the panorama is unforgettable, and a hearty meal in a mountain inn is the perfect reward.

And at the end of the day?
Back at the Sunnhofer in Vilpiano, a refreshing shower and a glass of local wine await. Because in South Tyrol, every bike ride is more than a route – it’s a piece of pure joy on two wheels.
